Cut to the Chase: What’s Up Doc?

What’s Up Doc (1972)

Peter Bogdanovich’s screwball comedy (the old name for “romantic comedy”) is seldom mentioned in cinematic circles. However, the wacky and playful nature of the film as well as the romantic chemistry between Barbara Streisand and Ryan O’Neal is great.

O’Neal is annoying and nebbish, which makes sense for this type of screwball comedy. And the late, great Madeline Kahn made her screen debut in this and well, she’s great but not Mel Brook’s great. I recently saw this with the wife a few weeks ago and found it charming to say the least.
