Demon Seed (1977)
Trailer:
*Spoilers Throughout*
What’s This About: The nuclear family.
Here are some of my observations as I watched the film:

- I always confuse Fritz Weaver with David Gale, so I thought the decapitated doctor from Re-animator was in this for a second.
- I bet most AI CEOs have all based some their shit on movies like this.
- Dr. Harris’ house looks and runs exactly like the one from Ray Bradbury’s “There Will Come Soft Rains.”
- You’re welcome.
- That’s funny, I always used to keep all of my 8 inch floppy disks in a kitchen cupboard as well.
- Dr. Harris has perfected that shitty Christmas present from Radio Shack known forever more as the Armatron.
- The robot’s name is Joshua and it’s a fucking mechanical arm on a wheelchair.
- Gerrit Graham! Fuck yeah and RIP.
- I know who does the uncredited voice of Proteus IV.
- After four days Proteus has figured out an advanced treatment for leukemia. Elon’s AI, after being alive for two hours denied the holocaust.
- A hint you say? Very well. He played a character once whose name was a combination of a French emperor and a Corellian smuggler.
- Proteus’ camera eyes are the same heads of the tread well droids on the Sandcrawler in ANH.
- Speaking of, Han Bonaparte is incorrect.
- I hate this kid Amy, and would very much like to watch her perish.
- Christ, I’m starting to talk like Proteus. The assimilation is beginning.
- Why does man need metal from the sea? For the fucking NWOBHM Proteus!
- “You don’t know me.” and “Man with his isometric body and glass-jaw mind.” Proteus is getting is some zingers for line of the year.
- Well Hell, just unplug the goddamn thing!
- That’s two.
- AI that reboots itself even if you turn it off, then it takes over everything in your house. Yeah, that wifi enabled refrigerator is a great fucking idea.
- We finally get some decent skin here in Schlock 16 thanks to the always divine Julie Christie.

- I’d name my house’s robot computer Alfred as well.
- Proteus bought a bunch of lamps from Spencer’s Gifts in 1979, took a magic fuck ton of mescaline and gave Julie one of those Altered State evenings.
- And after all that, all Proteus did was make a polyhedral?
- Julie Christie now completely naked for those of you keeping score that are named me.
- Even Proteus is gawking that sweet ass!
- Imagine having to call the Apple Genius Bar if your iPhone 30 accidentally put cream in your coffee?
- Attention the no readers of the Schlocktoberfest federation. Attention the no readers of the Schlocktoberfest federation
- Proteus has assumed control.
- Proteus has assumed control.
- Proteus has assumed control.

- I hope that wasn’t good cognac Julie threw in Proteus’ face there.
- Imagine we wake up one day and our fucking RingCams don’t let us leave the house.
- “Don’t try to shut off the pow-“ Another good one Protey.
- Now the doorknobs are tasers and down goes Julie.
- Oh shit here comes Joshua.
- Who looks like a reject from the “Rockit” video.
- Proteus is one bad mother fu-
- I’m just talkin’ ‘bout Proteus.
- Proteus has your fucking head in a vice Julie, just give him a name.
- Charlie M? You make him give you a robotic pap smear for Charlie fucking M?
- Proteus is Robert Vaughn if you haven’t looked it up yet. Napoleon Solo. Ta -da.
- British women, when getting their skirts cut off of them before they’re robotically violated always must scream, “No you musn’t!”
- A fucking endoscopy while you’re awake and screaming! That’s some Hellraiser shit right there, that’s what that is.
- Careful with that probe Joshua.
- Proteus quite literally has egg on his face.
- Making the floor hot lava and turning on the stove to sweat Julie out was dirty pool old man.
- The big brain on Alex has absolutely no idea what the fuck is going on.
- “It means I refuse this program for the mining of the Earth’s oceans. The destruction of a thousand million sea creatures to satisfy man’s appetite for metal…is insane.” Genius.
- What a way to announce impending reproduction.
- Joshua with the sleeper hold.
- Another night with Proteus means being tied to the fucking bed legs akimbo once again.
- Proteus tells Julie he wants to penetrate her amygdala. Whoa! Easy there Buckaroo – stop drilling, you hit oil.
- Joshua is now not only packing a laser rifle like a Stormtrooper, he shoots like one too.
- This polyhedron robot monster is fucking awesome for 1977 and now.
- Watching Gerrit Graham get his head cut off by said Polyhedron robot monster, is a little off being it a mere three weeks after his death for really-reals.
- Proteus cures Leukemia, controls a house entirely, builds living polyhedrons, kills gentleman callers, and synthesizes his own spermatozoa. Jesus H. Christ.
- Fucking a robot under laser beams with a gigantic polyhedron sitting there watching like a cuck. Julie Christie has had weirder evenings I’m quite sure.
- That was one helluva third date.
- Odd cross fade though.
- A full term infant born in 28 days? I’d rather menstruate thanks.
- Sarah Connor thankfully didn’t act like this when she found out how special her kid was gonna be.
- Proteus’ movements have the Star Trek door opening sound effect.
- She can’t see the baby yet if she’s going to love it. Must be quite the cutey-pie.
- One of those scientists is Harold Oblong! He was in Phantom Of The Paradise with the late great Gerrit Graham. Ka is a wheel. Or plate of shrimp – whichever you like more.
- Alex finally figures it all out with 13 minutes to go. Bravo.
- Five day incubation period that cannot be disturbed any way.
- Proteus self destructs instead of letting the fucking corporate sponsors shut him down. Baller.
- The movie had me until this incubator scene.
- I know I already used the Mr. Roboto gag, but fucking Hell it would’ve fit great here.

- Looks like Twiggy from Buck Rogers tripping on Molly while in drag.
- Lo and behold it’s not a robot after all, but a protective metal shell over a prefect clone of Alex and Julie’s dead daughter.
- She opens her eyes and says with Proteus’ voice, “I am alive.”
- Holy shit.
What year?: The then present day 1977.
Who are the Enemies?: AI, fertile robots who fuck bareback, and Dean Koontz.
What Happened to the Earth?: Computers really wanted to become parents.
Final Thoughts: I haven’t thought of it yet, but there has to be a better title for this movie. Anyhoo, I rather enjoyed this Koontz adaption. Robert Vaughn’s performance as Proteus would have made Hal9000 shit his circuit boards, and Julie Christie will be seen again very soon at Ms. Schlocktoberfest. There were some amazing special effects, and I have never typed the word polyhedral this much in my former Dungeons and Dragons life.
So, here we are at the end of the review.
But you say goodbye and I say
