One of the fascinating pieces of trivia below is true*, the other is false. Do YOU know which is which?
I Am Legend (2007)
1) Before it was finally green-lit with Will Smith as the lead and Francis Lawrence directing, the closest the project came to being made was in early 1998, when Warner Brothers gave an initial OK for a version starring Arnold Schwarzenegger with Ridley Scott directing. The studio’s art direction and special effects workers had even begun working on a design for the apocalyptic mutant creatures. But some high-profile big-budget failures for Warners and the huge (for that time) initial budget of $125 million led to the project being put into turnaround. If the film had been made from Mark Protosevich’s original screenplay, it would have differed from the 2007 version in three major ways: it was to be set in the Bay Area of California, it would have been more of an action film and less of a drama, and it would have been filmed with the intent of being R-rated.
2) Will Smith became so enamored with his canine co-star that he asked the dog trainer if he could adopt the precious pooch. The trainer refused, so Smith immediately tried to eat the dog to bond their souls as one. However, the dog was too fast for Smith’s bite, and simply ran away. Resorting to his second option, Smith attacked and ate the dog trainer instead, while the rest of the crew pretended not to notice, as they had become used to these types of shenanigans from Smith on set. Smith and the damned soul of the dog trainer can be heard laughing about this incident on the commentary track of the I Am Legend Blu-ray.

Yep, I knew about the Arnold/Ridley version, and I’m still sad it never happened. That would have been awesome.

They should’ve had the Will Smith good first half then inexplicably changed it to an action-packed Arnold version for the second half.

It could have been like Dr. Parnassus.

2 is correct. It’s the only explanation for how crazy the film is. 1 would mean the film is excellent right? Regardless, RIP Mattheson. You were an amazing writer and your masterpiece, I am Legend, did not get the screen adaptation it deserved.

R rated would of never featured Will Smith. The guy will only act in family things with his own family as the other leads.
