True or False Trivia: The Royal Tenenbaums

TOFT

One of the fascinating pieces of trivia below is true*, the other is false. Do YOU know which is which?

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)

1) The hand that is seen with the BB lodged between its knuckles is not Ben Stiller’s, but Andrew Wilson’s, brother of Owen Wilson and Luke Wilson. When they were children, Owen fired a BB gun at Andrew’s hand and the pellet has been there ever since.

2) Wes Anderson directed each scene from inside a specially constructed plexiglass cube so he could constantly enjoy and be inspired by the smell of his own flatulence throughout filming. He would often have the principle actors stand in the box with him for hours at a time, encouraging them to inhale his genius so that it could mingle with their own. Because of this, Gene Wilder, who was originally cast to play Royal, had to spend 6 weeks in the hospital and developed gangrene on his lungs. Gene Hackman, who was on set as an explosives expert, surgically removed the lungs himself while singing, “We Geeeeenes need to stiiiiiiick togetherrrrr!” and “They call me the Haaaaaack Maaaaaaan!” Anderson filmed the ghastly procedure, and later presented the footage as Fantastic Mr. Fox.

  1. When I was a kid, they planned a movie about my life called The Royal Isaacs. They filmed me every day for 40 years, recording all of my movements and actions, intermingling with a very young Uma Thurman. Eventually, the executives at Universal decided there were way too many poop and fart scenes and cancelled the entire thing.
