One of the fascinating pieces of trivia below is true*, the other is false. Do YOU know which is which?
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (1985)
1) Tim Burton and Paul Reubens brought on Danny Elfman as composer after Burton had attended concerts by Oingo Boingo, of which Elfman was lead singer and songwriter. Elfman was originally apprehensive, having no formal music training, but he was assisted by Boingo guitarist Steve Bartek as orchestrator. Elfman later said that hearing his music performed by an orchestra for the first time was one of the most thrilling experiences of his life.
2) In order for audiences to get a feel for just how attached Pee Wee was to his bicycle, Paul Reubens would engage in sexual intercourse with the bike several times a day in between filming his scenes, making love to every well-oiled part of it. This continued for several weeks until a terrible accident one day when Reubens pushed the envelope of his depravity and spun the wheels of the bike during a particularly intense lovemaking session and got his genitals caught in the bike’s chain and gears. It took a team of paramedics 6 hours to free him and he was in surgery an additional 19 hours. Despite significant blood loss, Reubens survived, but the accident left him mangled and scarred both physically and psychologically, unable to love ever again.
I don’t think #2 is true. While plausible, the fact exists that he was caught beating his meat in public several years ago.
