Hard Ticket to Home Video: The Year in 2012

In September 2011, we were very excited to finally get this site off the ground, something we’d been talking about for a long time but never got around to. We had a good time writing random articles, Schlocktoberfest and Twelve Movies Moving, but with the dawn of 2012 came a long stretch of inaction on our part, due largely to being burnt out from doing Twelve Movies Moving and Schlocktoberfest back to back (note that there is no Twelve Movies Moving this year, mostly because it was such a pain last year but also because we didn’t feel like sitting through Hallmark Christmas movies). But chiefly we were bummed about having no readers. We had an ok amount of visitors from October through December 2011, but it was very underwhelming for us. As our inspiration waned, so did our readership, which bottomed out in March 2012 with 81 views for the entire month. Granted, we weren’t really giving anyone anything to read, with just six (6) articles posted from the beginning of January to the beginning of September. It’s amazing we had any views at all. Then in September, we finally decided to get on the stick and get back on the horse and look it in the mouth or something. It finally dawned on us that we could find readers right in our face all along, through the other awesome movie blogs throughout WordPress. So we finally started connecting with writers just like us, and we couldn’t be happier. Our readership exploded, and now we’re besting our total for March 2012 daily. We just passed 8,000 views and are still chugging along nicely. A year ago, someone leaving a comment on one of our posts was like a magical fairy tale event. Now, we receive great comments frequently from great people. And it’s all thanks to you guys, who are currently reading this. Except you. You know who you are and you know what you did…

Brian’s Favorite Article He Wrote in 2012: Who Was the Best Action Star of the ’80s & ’90s?

I had a lot of fun calculating the formula for this and figuring out just how much Chuck Norris sucks, plus it was the article that got us of our asses to start writing on a regular basis again.

Brian’s Favorite Article Brad Wrote in 2012: Schlocktoberfest II – Day 17: Death Bed — The Bed That Eats

Brad brilliantly writes a fascinating piece about a movie that is seemingly indescribable. The lines, “Now enter our first victims who have come to the mansion with the intent to do two things—screw and eat some fried chicken. The girl is hesitant and creeped out, rightfully so since her date has brought her to some dank, dark mansion in the middle of nowhere to get in her pants and feed her a bucket of chicken with some wine and apples.” always make me laugh.

Brad’s Favorite Article We Wrote in 2012: I Don’t Get It…: The Dark Knight Rises

That movie needed to be brought down a peg.

Brad’s Favorite Article Brian Wrote in 2012: Gross!: 1984

The most insightful and informative (as well as funny) movie article I may have ever read.

Movie That Will Live in Infamy We Watched in 2012: Birdemic

Image Peace: It would be never seeing Birdemic.

Most Searched-for Article in 2012: The Sword and the Sorcerer

As we went over recently, because of this article we get an insane amount of hits off of the search term “ass massage.” Because of this, we’re giving away one free ass massage to the winner of our raffle, so don’t throw your tickets away!

Most Viewed Article in 2012: Twelve Movies Moving – Second Day: Babes in Toyland

This article was written in 2011 but has exploded in views in the past 30 days. Great article by Brad but a little weird how it was so sought out in this month.

Least Viewed Article in 2012: Schlocktoberfest II – Day 5: Brain Damage

COME ON, PEOPLE!

Oh, and we also became grateful members of The LAMB and CineWeekly, which was pretty radical.

Now, onto the awards of others. In the past few weeks we had some awesome people nominate us for some cool blogging awards:

CinEnemA and Written in Blood both nominated us for The Versatile Blogger Award, which is weird since we barely posted the first 8 months of the year, but THANK YOU nonetheless! You guys are awesome!

versatileblogger111

Written in Blood also very kindly nominated us for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, which makes complete sense because our blog has changed countless lives. Thanks again, friend!

veryinspiring

And lastly, both Isaacs Picture Conclusions and MikesFilmTalk nominated us for Blog of the Year, which is very humbling and also awesome as well. We’re so glad you guys like us enough to think of us for this, and that kind of stuff keeps us going.

Here to accept these awards on our behalf is Sacheen Littlefeather:

Sacheen Littlefeather

“Hard Ticket to Home Video has asked me to tell you, in a very long speech which I cannot share with you presently – because of time – that they very regretfully cannot accept these very generous awards. The reasons for this being the treatment of American Indians today by the blogging industry, and also with recent happenings at Gotham City. I beg at this time that I have not intruded upon this New Year’s Eve and that we will, in the future, in our hearts and our understanding will be excellent to each other… and PARTY ON DUDES!! Thank you on behalf of Hard Ticket to Home Video.”

Now that that’s out of the way, here are 15 totally gnarly sites that have been very supportive to us and should be read every day by everyone (in no particular order):

If we missed you, sorry, but thanks! Happy New Year, everyone!

  1. And even though the list was in no particular order, I did the Snoopy dance when I saw that I was number two on the list! Yay! 😀 Oh and I absolutely hurt myself laughing at the Little Feather shtick!
