Shake the Scene: Superman IV

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)

Superman 4 posterThe Scene: Superman vs. Some Nimrod Who’s Kind of Like Bizarro

Why This Scene Is So Weird: Everyone knows that Superman IV was a complete mess. It seems like nobody in the cast or crew wanted to be there and the plot is just ridiculous. Really, I thought nukes were wicked cool, Superman? Despite his luxurious hair and fingernails, Nuclear Man (played by the legendary Mark Pillow) is one of the worst villains of all time. BUT, did you know that the Chippendales dancer who fights the Man of Steel on the moon was actually version 2? Yes, before perfecting Nuclear Man into Patrick Swayze, Lex Luthor’s first attempt at cloning Superman from a strand of superhair resulted in… well, kind of like Blaster from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome meets Joey Buttafuoco. It’s just inexplicably awful. How bad is it? It got cut from Superman f*cking IV for being too senseless. That’s like cutting Kanye West out of a video tribute to pig uteruses.

Note: That video is the original, unfinished version. For a more cleaned up version that you can actually see and featuring Superman music, click here.

  1. I actually kinda dig Superman IV. It’s easily the worst of the Chris Reeve Superman films (I liked it more than Returns. Haven’t seen the new film).

But as bad as it turned out it was also sort of fun. But wtf is up with Jon Cryer lol one of the worst acting I’ve seen lol
