Ghostbusters (1984)

ghostbusters_ver2_xlgI’m still in shock and lamenting the passing of Harold Ramis and I’m just going to continue honoring the man and his movies with these quick clips of some of the best music moments from the original Ghostbusters. What I love most about Ghostbusters is the fact that its one of the few movies made that trend such fine lines so gracefully  between comedy, horror and action. I still get a shiver down my spine when the librarian ghost gets angry. There’s at least 6 characters that are all equally brilliantly funny and memorable. Everyone pulls there weight well in this film, even if they play a straight character like Sigourney Weaver or William Atherton. And what kid didn’t want to wear a Proton pack and run around a posh Manhattan hotel looking for ghouls? The Ghostbusters were basically super-heroes much like Batman; ordinary guys (scientists) doing extra-ordinary feats. There’s a huge reason this film holds up still to this day and its because all the elements of making a great film are in spades in this film.

And the soundtrack is fantastic as well. Everyone remembers and probably groans at the Ray Parker title song (I actually hate that song now to tell the truth) but all the lesser known songs by all the lesser known 80s artists and bands are still pretty damn great.
