Boogie Nights (1997)

Boogie NightsThe Scene: Drug Deal Gone Bad at Rahad Jackson’s House.

Why I Love This Scene: One of the most brilliant films to be made in the last 25 years. If you haven’t seen Paul Thomas Anderson’s masterpiece of comedy, drama and action (Brock Landers!) DO SO IMMEDIATELY! This scene in particular is probably the most tense and suspenseful since the dinner scene in The Godfather where Michael kills McCluskey and Sollozzo. Its also the funniest with Alfred Molina chewing so much scenery he’ll eventually need liposuction. Wearing nothing but a silk bathrobe, speedos, slippers and a ‘stache that puts Saddam Hussein to shame, he parades around the room singing along to his mix tape (Sister Christian, Jessie’s Girl and 99 Luftballoons), freebasing cocaine and playing Russian Roulette. He also has a lady-boy Chinese kid named Cosmo who can’t seem to stop throwing live fireworks in the house! Every time John C. Reilly jumps because of the fireworks has me in stitches!
