Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
The Scene: Jeff Spicoli is late to class because there was a whole crowded scene at the food lines.
Why I Love This Scene: How can you not love Jeff Spicoli and Mr. Hand? Mr. Hand is such an authoritative dick (even though he’s totally right) and Spicoli is such a burnout he really has no idea what’s going on in any given situation. I don’t think I can ever not laugh at, “Hey there’s no birthday party for me here!” and his little, “All right…” at the end perfectly encapsulates his character.

Mr. Pennybottom – I’ve never seen this all the way through either.

I was shocked when I found out that they originally wanted Fred Gynne as Mr Hand. I just couldn’t imagine anyone but Ray Walston in that role.

I love how his shirt is completely wide open and he has a bagel tucked in his pants.

When you gonna break down that Phoebe Cates pool scene?
One of my favorite high school films along with Dazed and Confused.

I have always loved this film. My favourite is the follow up scene to this one, where he orders a pizza to class. “How dare you order a pizza on my time.” (paraphrased)
“I’ve been thinking about that Mr. Hand. If I’m here and you’re here, doesn’t that make it OUR time?”
Love it.

Between Spicoli and Bluto from Animal House as role models, it’s a wonder I ever made it out of High School.

But Bluto became a senator and Spicoli got Van Halen to play his birthday party.
