One of the fascinating pieces of trivia below is true*, the other is false. Do YOU know which is which?
Slap Shot (1977)
1) Brothers Jack, Jeff and Steve Carlson were originally slated to play the Hanson brothers. However, Jack was called up by the Edmonton Oilers shortly before filming began. His part went to another member of the Johnstown Jets, David Hanson, who was supposed to play Dave “Killer” Carlson. Actor Jerry Houser was hired for that part.
2) Steve McQueen was originally cast in the lead role of Reggie Dunlop, drunkenly believing the movie was about a suave detective who could slap bullets out of the air when he was shot at. When he found out the movie was actually about minor-league ice hockey, he said he would still do the role provided that during every hockey game his character would slap a bullet out of the air when shot at by a crazed fan in the stands. The studio thought it over, but ultimately decided to go with the original concept and cast Paul Newman. McQueen was hospitalized days later from self-inflicted gunshot wounds to both hands.

I read that Roddy McDowell was supposed to play Michael Ontkean’s part but couldn’t do a striptease on skates without laughing.
