True or False Trivia: Risky Business

TOFT

One of the fascinating pieces of trivia below is true*, the other is false. Do YOU know which is which?

Risky Business (1983)

1) Because of his short 5’7″ height, Tom Cruise, demanded that every other actor to appear on screen with him slouch or hunch to appear shorter than him. Curtis Armstrong, who played his friend Miles, is actually standing on his knees in most shots. In Cruise’s steamy sex scene with Lana, Rebecca De Mornay is actually 10 feet away from Cruise in a forced perspective shot to give the illusion that they are the same height, much like how the Hobbits and Dwarves in the Lord of the Rings films appear smaller than other characters.

2) In 2009, Bronson Pinchot gave an interview to The A.V. Club in which he recalled that his main memory of the then-20-year-old Tom Cruise from the time when they were filming Risky Business was that (in Pinchot’s words), “he was tense and made constant, constant unrelated homophobic comments, like, ‘You want some ice cream, in case there are no gay people there?’ I mean, his lingo was larded with the most . . . there was no basis for it. It was like, ‘It’s a nice day, I’m glad there are no gay people standing here.’ Very, very strange.”

  1. I’m gonna guess option number 2. (Since in reality almost all actors are shorter than you think they are.) And I could add another true false question: This movie inspired more parody based uses of a Bob Seger song than any other movie….
