Band of Brothers (2001)

The Scene(s): Today is the 70th anniversary of D-Day. That means that while you’re sitting at a desk in front of a computer complaining about having to work because it’s nice outside, 70 years ago today our grandpas were hauling their brass balls into Normandy to try to help stop a madman by risking their lives in a hail of bombs and gunfire. So shut up that your Egg McMuffin is too cold and the cat video on YouTube is taking too long to load for one day. Anyway, we all know and love the Omaha Beach scene from Saving Private Ryan. It’s amazingly well-done and enthralling, making you feel like you’re actually there, which has a lot to do with the fantastic sound production. Well if you loved that, and you’ve never seen the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, then brother, you’re missing out. Under the guiding hands of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, Band of Brothers is visually similar to Saving Private Ryan, with battle scenes basically on par with Saving Private Ryan’s Omaha Beach. It’s also a remarkable story full of captivating characters based on real heroes. Below is Band of Brothers’ take on the Normandy invasion, coming in from the sky as opposed to the more well-known beach assault. And as a bonus I’ll also embed a few more extraordinary battle scenes from without a doubt the greatest miniseries of all time (obviously there are a few death spoilers in them if you haven’t seen the series).
