One of the fascinating pieces of trivia below is true*, the other is false. Do YOU know which is which?
Raging Bull (1980)
1) In 1978, when Martin Scorsese was at an all-time low due to a near overdose resulting from an addiction to cocaine, Robert De Niro visited him at the hospital and told him that he had to clean himself up and make this movie about a boxer. At first, Scorsese refused (he didn’t like sports movies anyway), but due to De Niro’s persistence, he eventually gave in. Many claim (including Scorsese) that De Niro saved Scorsese’s life by getting him back into work.
2) In the extremely early stages of production, director Martin Scorsese told Robert De Niro to get in shape, because they were going to film the boxing scenes first. Then, two months later, after De Niro worked out intensely and gotten buff, Scorsese told him that the shooting schedule had changed, and that they would now be shooting the older, fatter Jake LaMotta scenes first, so De Niro would have to stop training and gorge himself on food. One month and 60 pounds later, Scorsese again told De Niro that due to unforeseen circumstances, they would be filming the boxing scenes first, so he had to get back into shape in only six weeks. This went on and on for seven years until De Niro was able to gain and lose 60 pounds in just 9 hours, a record that still stands to this day. It wasn’t until several years later that Scorsese admitted to De Niro that the shooting schedule had never changed, and that he was only screwing with De Niro because he thought De Niro drank the last Pepsi out of his fridge. De Niro admitted that, in fact, he had consumed the Pepsi, and that Scorsese was right to punish him. Upon hearing this confession, Scorsese flew into a rage and punched De Niro’s face with razor blades in his fists for 9 hours. Fortunately for De Niro, his resulting disfigurement helped him nail the lead role in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
LOL!! Two words: tits.
