This Is the End (2013)
Starring: Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, The Backstreet Boys
Directed by: Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg (n/a)
Synopsis: Celebrities must survive the apocalypse and, dare I say it… each other.
Best part(s):
Worst part: I can think of approximately 420,862,391 better ways to end a movie than a Backstreet Boys performance.
Best line:
Jay Baruchel: “The power of Christ compels you!”
Jonah Hill: “Guess what? It’s not that compelling.”
Nudity: Like, SO many dicks.
Overall: A rib-tickling romp that you’ll enjoy more or less based on your like or dislike of the cast. I’m indifferent to most of these guys. I don’t hate Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill, although many do. James Franco rubs me the wrong way and he’s a really horrible actor 95% of the time (except maybe 127 Hours, but I watched like 20 minutes of Oz the Great and Powerful and holy shit he makes Larry the Cable Guy look like Daniel Day-Lewis). I’ve kind of had an impacted assful of Danny McBride’s schtick, but he does have some funny lines here. Craig Robinson is ok, I guess. And Jay Baruchel is just kind of there. There’s plenty of chortles to be had here, but like Satan’s dick, it’s way too long. It could’ve been shorter by about 20 minutes and had less scenes of everyone being self-deprecating. But funny flick, although it’s no komedy klassic.
Score: 7 demon dicks (out of 10)

Oz the Great and Powerful truly was a gut-wrenchingly bad performance from Franco, but I otherwise dig his act quite a lot.

That movie would have been garbage either way but if they had cast Robert Downey Jr. or Johnny Depp like they were planning it could have been more tolerable.

I always hate Michael Cera but he was a comedy genius in this.

He stole the show and, dare I say it… our hearts.

I still haven’t seen this movie. Everyone raved about it in the summer, but I never got around to seeing it.
I might hate it. That happens when I watch something that’s been hyped up too much.

Smash – I normally hate all of these fuckers but for some reason I laughed my ass off the whole time. There’s a scene with Michael Cera that’s absolutely hilarious. I’m not trying to hype it up – but it was pretty fucking funny somehow.

Now you’ll have to wait until next summer.

Well said on this film and specifically on Oz.
I thought this one funny enough, but it stumbles whenever it tries to be serious.

Yeah I don’t think you’re going to talk about your hurt feelings too much when there are demons around.

Probably not. And even if you do, it won’t be the way this flick represents.

Everybody here has always found a way to make me laugh in one way or another. And in this movie, they didn’t disappoint either. Good review Brian.

It should be more specific, like “oily rim jobs” or “rim jobs underwater.”

Love this film. How did I know EXACTLY what your favorite part would be? Also, there is no better way to end a film than with BSB in heaven. Period.

HA! Yeah, all those times. P.S. Have you decided not to do anything for NOOOOvember? I was kind of looking forward to you ripping some movie a new one. I only ask because I see mentions of Oz on here…

Ohhhh, I’m sorry. I can whip something up real quick. Probably not Oz because I didn’t watch much of it and didn’t have any expectations for it. Is there a specific format to follow?

No pressure! Only if you want to do something and have the time. No specific format–however you’d like to vent. And really, I totally understand if things are busy with Thanksgiving this week. I’ll just bug ya for NOOOOvember 2014. Or maybe JuWHYYY. 😉

Spot on score and write up. Hilarious in places but they overdo some of the jokes. And yeah the ending was shite.

Should’ve been Black Sabbath.

Oz was painful to watch. Terrible, terrible James Franco. My favourite part of this was your worst part. Backstreet’s back, ALRIGHT!

If they had cast the Backstreet Boys as Munchkins would you have liked Oz better?

No, I’d take the munchkins singing over the Backstreet Boys singing. I just dig the dance moves. I don’t think anything would have made me like Oz better, except for maybe drugs.
