One of the fascinating pieces of trivia below is true*, the other is false. Do YOU know which is which?
Flash Gordon (1980)
1) Most of Sam J. Jones’s dialog was dubbed. This was down to the fact that Jones had had a falling out with producer Dino De Laurentiis over lack of payment and refused to go into the recording studio to loop his lines.
2) The Hawkmen’s wings may have looked a little silly, but they were technologically advanced enough to be 100% capable of flight. Brian Blessed, fueled by liters and liters of Scotch, would take nightly flights along the English countryside during filming, terrorizing locals who would tremble in fear at the sight of the robust bird man, particularly when he swooped down at them with tremendous speed, yelling, “DIIIIIIIIIIVE!!” and spraying urine on their heads. Blessed says that Flash Gordon remains his favorite movie-making experience to this day, and he’ll still pull out the wings from time to time when he’s had one too many.

Hilarious! I remember going to see this in the movie theater and afterwards my friends and I fashioned wings of our own out of my grandma’s stockings and wooden clothes hangers. Then we all jumped off the roof and three of us died. I won’t tell you which group I was part of – the survivors or fatalities.

I’ve considered it, but given my love for the old serials and the comics of Flash Gordon I think I’d cringe at this version.

It’s definitely super-cheesy but good fun.
